Cambodia – Team Building Destination

A meeting in a secluded resort, an incentive remote island hopping trip, a conference at a jungle surrounded temple, or an exhibition at a state of the art international standard hotel – whatever your M.I.C.E. requirements Cambodias has it all.

Cambodia is a unique destination – with its incredible culture and natural beauty it has something to offer everyone. International standard hotels with in-house conference facilities; secluded resorts with meeting rooms; and attractions and activities to suit all tastes–nature lovers, culture vultures, the adventurous, the health and spa enthusiasts, the cuisine aficionados, the environment conscious, the sun and sea worshippers, and the shoppers.

Cambodia is becoming an emerging MICE destination in Indochina, given better infrastructure and facilities across the country, which has prompted the government to promote the segment seriously.

Reflecting the destination’s dedication to grow its MICE business, the Ministry of Tourism debuted a country pavilion at last month’s IT&CMA, the region’s leading MICE-focused event.

Cambodia welcomed 2.5 million visitors last year, up 16 per cent over 2009. The top 10 markets were Vietnam, South Korea, China, Japan, the US, France, the UK, Thailand, Australia and Taiwan.

Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville would be promoted as key MICE destinations, given their facilities and accessibility.

The country’s newest and largest ballroom at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, opened last December. The 1,800m2 Grand Ballroom can hold 1,200 pax for a sit-down banquet and 1,800 pax in theatre-style. The hotel’s poolside venue can host a 600-guest reception, while the ballroom foyer can handle a 1,200-pax reception.

More venues will open in Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, where two large convention facilities are under construction. In Bokor Mountain, about three hours by car from Sihanoukville, the Thansur Bokor integrated resort is slated to open next February. It will have 412 rooms and villas and an extensive meeting facility for up to 6,000 delegates in a theatre setting.
